PACK THE PANTRY IS BACK!

Monday, August 31, 2026 – Wednesday, September 30, 2026
This year, the Support Staff Association is teaming up with the Police Union and Faculty Association to collect as many donations as possible. Every bit helps make a difference.

You can drop off shelf-stable, nonperishable food and hygiene items at any of our donation boxes around campus. Or you can use
this link to arrange a time to drop off items directly to the pantry in the Student Life office!

What is the Cardinal Food Pantry?
The Cardinal Food Pantry is open to all SVSU students, faculty, and staff. It's free, anonymous, and open during Office of Student Life business hours.

Why does this initiative matter?
The Cardinal Food Pantry gives out thousands of pounds of food every year. During the 2025-2026 school year alone, the pantry distributed 24,561.78 pounds of food, up 22.4% from the 2024-2025 school year. That's a LOT of food.
Another way to look at is total visits. For the 2025-2026 school year, the pantry logged 5,762 total visits (up from 4,500 visits) and 622 first-time visitors (up from 498). The need is there and it's only growing.

Don't they have funding for this?
While the Cardinal Food Pantry does receive grant funding, there's been a change in how much they're able to spend as the current grant cycle ends and a new funding phase begins. In the past, the food pantry's grant allowed them to spend ~$1,500 per week on supplementary food. Now, that's been reduced to just $1,500 per month. This is a 75% reduction and will greatly impact the volume and variety of food available to those who need it. Initiatives like Pack the Pantry help the Cardinal Food Pantry stretch that funding.
