Angela Thiel
Administrative Secretary/Office Coordinator
Admissions Office

Q: What’s your current role at SVSU, and how long have you been here?
A:
My current role is Office Coordinator/Administrative Secretary for the Office of Admissions. I have been with SVSU since March of 2023 where I started as an Administrative Secretary for 3 federally funded grant programs. I’ve been in my current role in Admissions since July 2025.

Q: What’s something people might not know about the work you do?
A:
I supervise 6 student employees. Knowing that the work they do in our office can contribute to a small part of their college experience is rewarding. I appreciate them more than they know!

Q: What do you enjoy most about being part of the SVSU community or the union?
A:
I feel like the union here is extremely supportive of its members. And if I have a question or concern, I get a quick and informative response. Everyone I’ve spoken to has been so helpful!

Q: Do you have any hobbies, interests, or fun facts you’d like to share about yourself?
A:
I became a first-time grandma this past December and it’s been so much fun! I'm also a part time fitness instructor, teaching a spin class is my favorite. I’ve run 2 half marathons and 1 full marathon. I will be running my third half marathon this October in Detroit.

Q: Is there a piece of advice or a quote that has inspired you in your career or life?

A: I’ve always believed that “The good you put out into the world always has a way of coming back to you”. And I try to find the positive side of every situation.

Hello! My name is Ahleah Yaworski, and I have been with the university for a little over two years now. I first began in the Clerical Pool by bouncing around offices and getting to know some of the workings of campus. Now, I am the new Administrative Secretary for Housing Operations, which has been a recent and exciting challenge.
As I am new to this position, there is still much to be discovered, but so far I have greatly enjoyed the chance to help students in any way that I can—whether it's assisting someone in finding a classroom, reuniting a student with their missing ID card, or guiding them to where they need to go next in their process.
When I was an undergraduate student here, I appreciated SVSU's campus and supportive community environment. Since graduating and entering the workforce, I have come to find that this aspect is rarely achieved by other employers, so I value this element greatly here.
Growing up in a union family, the SSA was one of the major reasons why I chose to work for SVSU. I recognize and appreciate the benefits and protections that come with being part of a union, and I look forward to helping support it in whichever ways that I can.
Outside of work, I enjoy caring for my indoor plant garden. Currently, it is 50+ tropical plants strong, so it is lovingly referred to it as my indoor jungle. I also love taking care of and playing with my three chihuahuas, who are often quite content with being couch potatoes. I enjoy all sweet things and baking, so if anyone likes to trade recipes, please let me know!
Overall, I'm truly grateful to be part of the SVSU and SSA and look forward to continuing to grow in my career here while supporting the campus community.

Hello, my name is Brooke Monville. I've been a third shift Custodial Specialist since 2023. I have six years' experience in custodial work prior to being hired here. I enjoy the nights and working with the student workers during summer in Housing.
It's a thankless job and most don't realize how much we custodians do behind the scenes. I'm grateful for everyone on my shift and the rest of the facilities department for the sense of community I personally feel. They've made it seem like more than just a workplace sometimes!
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling when finances permit. I've been to Finland and Estonia. I used to enjoy dog sledding and love the U.P., but now I like to relax at home with my cat, Pumpkin. I love music, all kinds from all over the world, and that's how I usually wind down.
My job at SVSU is important to me, and so is being in a Union. I hope to continue working here for a long time!

This could be you!

Each month, our Member Corner is a place where we highlight the people behind the work: the support staff who keep SVSU running day in and day out.
This time, instead of featuring one person, we're holding the space open for you.
You don't need a special title or a standout achievement to be featured. Every role, every path to SVSU, and every perspective adds something meaningful to our shared story.
Whether you've been here for decades or are still settling in, your experience matters and deserves to be seen. If being featured feels a little outside your comfort zone, know that you're not alone! Please know that we make the process as easy as possible. Answer a few short questions, share a photo if you'd like, and get recognized by fellow members who appreciate the work you do.
This space is about connection, appreciation, and lifting one another up. If you're interested, or even just curious, please reach out to Communications Committee Chair, Christiana Haight, at [email protected]. We would love to help share your story in a future issue!
